ABOUT US

Movement towards Education and Youth Empowerment – Sierra Leone (MEYE-SL) is a Community Based Organization established in August 2016 by a team of young Sierra Leonean professionals with its head office in Bo City, Southern Province, Sierra Leone.  MEYE-SL has deep trust in the need to put youth, children, women and vulnerable families at the center of their own transformation, believing in the capacity for them to initiate and promote processes that can eliminate factors that inhibit their holistic development with the determination to work as a unit and to increase their self-reliance capacities. Movements towards Education and Youth Empowerment-Sierra Leone (MEYE-SL) has been established to help work with disadvantaged youth, children, women, and vulnerable families in communities that need empowerment and self-reliance for themselves. This wishes to release them from the claws of persistent poverty, unemployment, poor education, and violence (which could have related to the outbreak of the past eleven (11) years brutal civil war and the recent Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone). The organization works with underprivileged rural communities in response to poverty reduction, access to education, peace and security, entrepreneurship skills training and youth and women empowerment. In 2017, MEYE-SL started operations in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District, Southern Province, Sierra Leone. Over the years, the organization expanded its operations in Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District. The organization has been directly delivering services in the areas of transformative education for vulnerable children at basic level, especially for boys and girls, human security and sustainable peace promotion, and youth and women empowerment programmes (through social entrepreneurship, business and leadership skill acquisition, economic empowerment training for women and young people). Through peace promotion, educational support, social and economic approaches to poverty reduction, MEYE-SL has been working to address the peace, security and socio-economic issues of disadvantaged youth, women, and children in underprivileged rural communities within Sierra Leone. MEYE-SL’s work has been guided by previous national and global organizational strategies and specific thematic strategies in terms of service delivery.
